Phyl was my father's aunty, but she felt like my aunty too. I spent many summer days at her house with my cousin, Darren and she was always wonderfully hospitable and welcoming.
I certainly remember Phyl as a happy, 'twinkly' person, a smile never far from her lips. She was full of her own unique catchphrases too. I can still hear her saying, "I'm all for competition!"
They say of some people that they don't know how to take a joke; that couldn't be further from the truth as far as Phyl was concerned. She never minded being the subject of good-natured ribbing from the family. Indeed, she loved hosting big family occasions, and loved her time with her sisters, and her extended family.
Whether wobbling on her bike, laughing with Fred, or expressing her mock outrage at whatever joke Jacqueline and I might have played on her, it's reassuring to know that we'll all have our own happy memories of times spent with Phyl.
